About Us

Kenny Thomson Design is a garden design practice based in East Lothian, Scotland. It is run by award winning garden designer Kenny Thomson and offers a professional garden design service throughout the whole of the UK. The company was set up in 2004 when Kenny left a career as a chartered accountant to pursue his passion for horticulture and garden design.

Kenny has studied both the Royal Horticultural Society General and Advanced Certificates in Horticulture, and he is a Pre-registered member with the Society of Garden Designers.

Since 2004, Kenny has designed and completed a diverse range of projects across Scotland. Although principally operating in Edinburgh and East Lothian he has designed projects in Glasgow, Fife, Aberdeenshire, London, Surrey, Hertfordshire and the Scottish Borders. The projects completed include both small domestic front gardens and city centre back gardens through to hospital sanctuary spaces and large country residences.

Kenny has also designed three award winning show gardens.

Our Philosophy

We aim to work closely with our clients to design gardens that are both beautiful to look at and to be in but, at the same time, are practical and functional. We want to create gardens that will allow our clients to connect with the natural world on a number of levels - sight, sound, smell, touch, taste - but remain, at heart, a space for living.

We look to use materials, plants and colours in innovative ways, whilst designing a garden that remains true to the feeling and sense of the place in which that garden sits.
