Working with Letham Plants, a nursery specialising in astrantias, we designed an exhibit for the RHS Innovative Display Initiative that celebrated the 'star' appeal of this versatile plant. At the centre of the display we created a raised umbel of 25 specially commissioned steel planters that was a stylised representation of the central umbel of the astrantia flower itself. These planters were then planted with different astrantia varieties, allowing the delights of the genus to be viewed from a new perspective, whilst below, we created a bed of complementary planting partners, highlighting the plants versatility.
The judges awarded the display a Silver-Gilt medal.
